"And the men did the work faithfully.

Over them were set Jahath and Obadiah, the Levites of the sons of Merari, and Zechariah and Meshullam of the sons of the Kohathites," to have oversight.

"And the Levites, all who were skillful with instruments of music, were over the burden-bearers and directed all who did work in every kind of service.

Verse 12, "Now in the days of Joiakim the priests, the heads of the fathers' houses were Seraiah, Mariah, and Jeremiah, Hananiah, and of Ezra, Ma- Meshullam, and Amariah, and Johanan of Melemthiu, Jonathan of Shebaniah, Joseph of Harim, Adna of Meroth, Helkai of Iddo, Zechariah of Ginnethon, uh, Meshullam of Abijah, uh, Zicri, the son of Minjamin of Maadiah, Pit- uh, Piltai of Bilgah, Shammua and Shammua, J- uh, Jeho- Nathan of Joiarib, Mattenai of Jedaiah, Uzzi of Sallai, Kallai of Amok, Abir of Hilkiah, Hashabiah and of, and of J- Jedaiah, Nethanel.

During the reign of Darius the Persian, a record was also kept of the Levites and priests who had ha- who had been heads of their fathers' houses in the days of Eliashib, Joiada, Joha- Johanan, Jehanan, and Jaduah, the sons of Levi, the heads of the fathers' houses into the days of Johan- Johanan, the son of Eliashib, were written in the book of the Chronicles." Verse 24, "And the heads of the Levites were Hashabiah, Sherebiah, and Jeshua the son of Kadmiel, with the brothers across from them to praise and give thanks group alternating with group according to the command of David, the man of God.

Mattaniah, Bak- uh, Bakkukhai, Obadiah, Mesh- Meshullam, Talmon, and Akkub were gatekeepers keeping the watch at the storerooms of the gates.

These lived in the days of Joiakim the son of Jeshua, the son of Jozadak, and in the days of Nehemiah the governor and of Ezra the priest, the scribe." Okay, so that's the end of that little section where I'm going through all these different names from the Levites.

Then the priests and Levites purified themselves and purified the people, the gates, and the wall." Verse 31, "So I brought the leaders of Judah up on the wall and appointed two large thanksgiving, uh, choirs.

One went to the right hand of the wall toward the Refuse Gate.

The workers laboured faithfully.

Over them to direct them were Jahath and Obadiah, Levites descended from Merari and Zechariah and Meshullam, descendants of Kohath.

The Levites, all who were skilled in playing musical instruments, had charge of the labourers and supervised all the workers from job to job.

Some of the Levites were secretaries, scribes, and gatekeepers.

"In the 18th year of his reign..." And so that would make him about what? How old? Eight plus 18, 26.

So when he was about 26 years old, "King Josiah sent Shaphan son of Azaliah and grandson of Meshullam, the court secretary, to the temple of Yahuah.

He told him, 'Go to Hilkiah the high priest and have him count the money the gatekeepers have collected from the people at Yahuah's temple.'" So when he became 26, this is at the 18th year of his reign, he sets his heart, he sets his sight on restoring the temple of Yahuah.

And so in verse 5, "Entrust this money to the men assigned to supervise the restoration of Yahuah's Temple.

And on his left were, uh, Pedaiah, Mishael, uh, Malchijah, Malchijah." The people on the left are harder.

Uh, "Hashum, Hashbadana, Zechariah, and Meshullam." All right.

It says, "Ezra opened the book, and all the people could see him because he was standing above them.

And as he opened it, the people all stood up.

Says, "These were the leaders of the priests and their associates, uh, in the days of Joshua." Uh, then it goes over the Levites.

And then verse 22, it says, "The family heads of the Levites in the days of Elishib, uh, uh, Joy- Joiada, uh, Johanan, and Jaddua, as well as those of the priests, they were, uh, recorded in the reign of Darius the Persian.

The family heads among the descendants of Levi up to the time of Johanan, uh, son of Elishib, were recorded in the Book of the Annals, and the leaders of the Levites were Hashabiah, Sherebiah, Jeshua, and son of Kadmiel, and their associates who stood opposite them to give praise and thanksgiving, one section responding to the other as prescribed by David, the man of God." Then it says, uh, "Mattaniah, uh, Bakbukiah, Obadiah, Meshullam, Talmon, and Akkub were gatekeepers who guarded the storerooms at the gates.

They served in the days of Joiakim, son of Joshua, the son of Jozadak, and in the days of Nehemiah, the governor, and of Ezra, the priest, the teacher of the law." [sniffs] And then finally they dedicate the wall, and it says, "At the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem, the Levites were sought out from where they lived, and they were brought to Jerusalem to celebrate joyfully the dedication with songs of thanksgiving, with the music of cymbals, harps, and lyres.

Verse one, "Now those who placed their seal on the document were: Nehemiah the governor, the son of Hacaliah and Zeb- Zedekiah, Seraiah, Azariah, Jeremiah, Pashhur, Amariah, Malchijah, Hattush, Shebaniah, Malluch, Harim, Meremoth, Abaddiah, Daniel, Ginnethron, or Ginnethon." Uh, or is it Ginnethon? Or maybe it's Ginnethon.

"Baruch, Meshullam, Abijah, Mijamin, Majamin, Mazziah, Bilgai, and Shemamiah, Shemaiah.

Those were the priests." So now we're in verse nine.

"The Levites: Jeshua the son of Azaniah, B- Binnui of the, of the sons of Henadad and Kadmiel." Verse 10, "Their brethren: Shebaniah, Hodijah, uh, Kelita, P- Palaia-" Hanun, Micaiah, Rehob, Hashabiah, Zaccur, Sherebiah, Shebaniah, Hodijah, Bani and Beninu.

Adonijah.

Yeah, Adonijah.

Bigvai, Adin, Ater, Hezekiah, Azzur, Hodijah, Hashum, Bezai, uh, Har- Hariph, Hariph? Uh, Anathoth, Nebai, Magpiash, Meshullam, Hezir, Meshez- Meshhezabel, Zadok, Zadok, Pelatiah, Hanan, Ananiah, Hoshea, Ananiah, Hashub, Helopesh, Helohesh, Ha- Halohesh, Pilha, Shobek, Rehum, Hashabnah, um, Maaseiah, Ahijah, Anan, or Hanan, Anan, uh, Malluch, Harim and Bani.

And next unto them repaired Meremoth the son of Urijah, the son of Koz.

And next unto them Meshullam the son of Berechiah, the son of Meshezabeel.

And next unto them repaired Zadok the son of Baana.

And next unto them the Tekoites repaired; but their nobles put not their necks to the work of their Lord.

Moreover the old gate repaired Jehoiada the son of Paseah, and Meshullam the son of Besodeiah; they laid the beams thereof, and set up the doors thereof, and the locks thereof, and the bars thereof.

And next unto them repaired Melatiah the Gibeonite, and Jadon the Meronothite, the men of Gibeon and of Mizpah, unto the throne of the governor on this side the river.

Next unto him repaired Uzziel the son of Harhaiah, of the goldsmiths.

After him repaired also Shemaiah the son of Shechaniah, the keeper of the east gate.

One went to the right on the wall toward the Dung Gate.

Hoshea and half the leaders of Judah followed, along with Azariah, Ezra, Meshullam, Judah, Benjamin, Shemaiah, Jeremiah, and some of the priests' sons with trumpets.

And Zechariah son of Jonathan, son of Shemaiah, son of Mattaniah, son of Micaiah, son of Zakkur, son of Asaph followed, as well as his relatives.

Shemaiah, Azarael, Milalai, Gilalai, Maai, Nethanel, Judah, and Hanani, with the musical instruments of David, the man of God.
