Forty-year-old tradie Joshua McDonald was shot dead out the front of a home in Merrylands last week in what detectives believe was a case of mistaken identity.

The owner of the property had alleged links to Sydney's underworld, but the victim did not.

An eighteen-year-old man has now been arrested, with detectives saying he was involved in the shooting and have seized a drone.

They're both 15.

The pair's been charged after a shooting where bullets were sprayed into the wrong home in Merrylands.

One of the teens has also been charged over a second shooting in Guildford West.

A teen involved in both shootings has pleaded guilty to a reduced number of charges.

He's received a sentence of 24 months in youth detention.

But with time served, he walked free the same day with no conviction recorded.

The 15-year-old involved in the Maryland shooting was also involved in a separate stabbing.
