Mera Peak

Sure, we had a rough go of it.

Most of my right pinky finger is still chilling somewhere on the slopes of Mera Peak, having sloughed off after a bout of frostbite.

We took our lumps, but if that had been all, it wouldn't have been so bad.

We'd have come home banged up but with a good story to tell.

Ironically, for someone who set off in the hopes of having a good story to share, I don't like talking about the incident at Mera Peak.

We were abroad four weeks all told, five actually if you include the time we spent in the hospital, and I wish I could forget every second.

What really makes me wish we hadn't gone, the thing that really keeps me up at night, isn't the pain, the ice, the life-or-death struggle we faced while trying to climb that peak.

It's the thing we encountered in the snowstorm, the thing that followed us.

Honestly, it may have been April or May of 2025, so almost a year before when it was happening.

We chose Merritt Peak, and that was kind of tough because we were like, this is awesome.

Now we have to wait a year until we're actually going to make this happen.

But yeah, honestly, it was probably close to a year that we had been planning.

Okay.

And then next spring, I go to Himalayas, the Everest region, and I am supposed to climb Mira Peak, Island Peak, and Lubuche East.

So that would actually give me five if I achieve all, but I wanted to have like an extra in case there's any weather issue or I don't achieve the summit.
