Meneldil

It really goes to show Tolkien's brilliance with language and how he created a language that you can continually explore, bringing further meaning to his stories.

I think it also points to Tolkien's storytelling method of starting with a name and then creating a story for those names to live in.

Just a little detail, but thought it would be fun to share.

The disaster of the Gladden Fields took place in the second year of the Third Age, and was a major turning point for Middle-earth and the High Kingship of the Dúnedain in the north.

After spending a year in the south re-establishing the realm of Gondor and planting a seedling of the White Tree, the sealer left the southern kingdom under the rule of his nephew Meneldil and set out for the northern kingdom Arnor.

He was said to march in haste to assume the crown of the north and to reunite with his wife and youngest son Valandil, whom he had left in Rivendell during the War of the Last Alliance.

So instead of choosing the longer but safer Western Road through pathless and marshy lands, Isildur chose the direct route north up the vales of Anduin, alongside the eastern foothills of the Misty Mountains.

Middle-Earth.

On September 5th, in the year 2 of the Third Age, following the defeat of Sauron and having entrusted the kingdom of Gondor to his nephew Meneldil, Isildur embarked on his journey north to claim the throne of his father Elendil in Arnor.

In the year 2941 of the Third Age, at roughly this time of year, The dwarves are imprisoned in Thranduil's dungeons, and Bilbo begins to work out a plan to free them.

In the year 3018 of the Third Age, in the first weeks of September, rumors begin to spread throughout the Shire about Bilbo and Frodo's upcoming joint birthday.
