Menehune

It's like, it's very cool and, again, very authentic in there.

And then something that I loved, this was one of my favorite things, is that the Hawaiians have, like, a folklore of these people called the Menehune, and they're supposed to be these, like, little people who are these magical builders, and so they can come overnight and, like, build things and whatever.

It's, like, a big part of Hawaiian folklore.

And so rather than hiding tons of hidden Mickeys, even though of course there are hidden Mickeys, they hid tons of these little Menehune statues all over the resort.

So there's actually, like, a whole Menehune play area for kids that's, like, themed around it.

But throughout the resort are the Menehune, and we loved finding all the different little, like, Menehune peeking around.

They're so cute, and I love that they did that.

It's like it feels very Disney, like something to search for, but, like, also Hawaiian.

think of the lush volcanic islands of Hawaii.

It's there, in the deep forests and hidden valleys, that we find the legend of the Menehune.

Not a monster to be feared, but a shy and ancient race of master builders.

The Menehune are the little people of Hawaiian lore.

They are described as being only two to three feet tall and were known to be incredibly strong and industrious.

According to legend, they were master stonemasons and engineers who lived on the islands long before the ancestors of modern Hawaiians arrived.

If they failed, the work would be abandoned forever.

Now the Hawaiian landscape is dotted with exposed evidence of their labor.

That's part of the equation, I'm sure.

Well, the other thing when it comes to giants, I guess you could say, is something that came up during our investigation of the Menehune, the little people in Hawaii, and that is that the Menehune people were on the other end.

They were the little people, right? Well, does that mean they were little in stature or was it status? And you could flip it around and say the same things about giants.

Maybe they were the tall people or the big people or the elite people, not necessarily because of how tall they were, but because of their stature within the culture.

The Hawaiians have always said that there was a race of tiny, forest-living, nocturnal super builders that lived on the islands before they got there.

They called them Menehune.

And from what I have read, they didn't consider them mythical until after colonization.

Before that, it was just past history.

Believe that night marchers are real.

And even like the Menehune in Hawaii, very much.

I believe in them as well, but it's, you know, it's a very spiritual place and,

Yeah.

the story of Atlantis or, or Lemuria.

Um, and that's where the Menehune lived, which are the small-

... little warrior boys, and um, and the builders and all that sort of stuff.
