Mendocino Complex Fire

Welcome back to the podcast.

And we're going to be heading to California to examine the Mendocino Complex Wildfire Entrapment, which happened in August of 2018.

As always, these debriefs are intended never, ever, ever to criticize firefighters with our luxurious benefit of hindsight.

We're here to understand what happened, what information was available, what decisions were made, and most importantly, what the rest of us can learn from it.

So let's get into it.

So firstly, to understand the incident, we need to go back a few weeks because on the 27th of July, 2018, two separate wildfires began in Mendocino County in Northern California.

These became known as the Ranch Fire and the River Fire, collectively referred to as the Mendocino Complex.

So the fire continued expanding across an enormous landscape.
