Melbourne High School

Yeah, so those that are at the state of state school, for example.

So if you're at Melbourne High School or if you're at McRobertson, no, they're not gaming the system because they've been designed for high performance.

In a sense, they

are.

And fortunately, before I had to sort of make some decisions, 40 came knocking and I was pretty much whisked off down to Melbourne to play.

After starting a school year in Shep, I was in, after a couple of good practice games, I was in Melbourne boarding with an older lady in South Yarra and got shoved straight into Melbourne High School, which is a boys' school, not a private school, but still a public school.

But yeah, I was thrown into somebody else's course.

I was doing history and geography and politics, maths, English.

That was one.

I was away from home, 16 years old, no real constraints, I suppose.

catch a train to footy training, go to school at Melbourne, living in South Yarra, go to school at Melbourne High School, one stop from South Yarra to Punt Road or to Richmond Station and go to training.

So that was sort of your day.

I'm going to continue on after when you aged 13.

You went to Melbourne High.

Yeah.

Right? And you said something that the high school has changed your trajectory of your life.

I was interested in compute.

And there wasn't really a compute program.

But I found out from one of my fellow students at the local high school that his brother was at Melbourne High and he was preparing to sit for the entrance exam for Melbourne High because it was a select entry school.

So every year about 1,500 boys, because it's a male-only school, sit for this exam and they admit somewhere between 250 and 300 students for intake.

strictly a country boy and I came to town, had one year at Melbourne High School, which I absolutely hated because they had a hierarchy there.

I'd never known about that in the country.

Everybody was the same.

Yep.

Yeah, and I went to Melbourne High School.

Um, so and we, we won that, we were the first side, Melbourne High School were the first side to win the Herald Shield.
