Um, the assistant chairman of the DNC, the Democrat National Committee, the assist-assistant chairman, I believe her name is, uh, Megan Romer.

I don't know how many of you caught this, but last Sunday she was on with Shannon Bream, and Shannon flat out asked her, "Is the DSA, the Democrat Socialists of America, are they for this? Are they for this? Are they for this?" Again, these are not socialists, folks.

Th-they are Marxists.

We've known about this for, for a very, very long time.

Yeah, we have.

So as promised, this, uh, the, the assistant chair of the DNC, this Megan Romer, was on this past Sunday with Shannon Bream on...

What is that show? Fox News Sunday.

It's not the 45 Tea Party-backed congressional candidates who won in the 2010 midterms, but the feeling isn't so different.

An insurgent ideological movement fed up with the status quo is posing a threat to the powers that be in one of America's two parties.

So where did this movement come from? What does it want? And can it coexist with the rest of the Democratic Party? Or does it want a MAGA-style takeover? Today, we're going to talk about these questions and more with New York Times Magazine national politics reporter Charles Homans.

He spoke with DSA candidates, organizers, members, and volunteers in New York, Chicago, Michigan, and Wisconsin this summer while writing the piece titled, Moderates See Socialists as a Threat to the Democratic Party.

I mean, I think you could start with the organization DSA, Democratic Socialists of America, which is the vehicle by which a lot of people who are self-identified socialists, Democratic socialists, are running for office now.

Certainly not all of them.

As you mentioned, Bernie Sanders sort of famously is not a member of the group and is responsible more than anyone else for sort of popularizing DSA.

this movement right now in American politics, but is not a DSA or himself.

So this is the DSA National Political Committee.

Co-chair Megan Romer says the goal is to achieve control of every aspect of our lives.

By that, she means your lives.

AOC, if she does run for the presidency, will want to talk about the things she wants to talk about.

And the, the DSA itself has this, [laughs] a, you know, list of policies that those candidates may well see as a millstone and will make them potentially ditch, if not formally the DSA, then a lot of the things that they're, they're wanting, because they are pretty out there, aren't they? There was this interview, we should listen to a bit of it, an interview that, um, Megan Romer, who's the DSA's other co-chair, not the one we're about to hear from, but the other one, who appeared on Fox News Sunday in July and was asked this, this range of issue positions, and she was very happy to give them.
