And so Christine packs her bags and she brings her maidservant, Meg Giry, and her son, Pierre, and Pierre's tutor, the Irish Catholic priest, Father Joe, whose entire backstory we get.

Ah! And Raoul and his shot-off dick will arrive later.

The managers ask to speak to the house manager, who tells them that the people in box five heard a voice inside telling them that the box was occupied.

The managers then ask to speak to Madame Giry, the box attendant, who is also Meg Giry's mother.

She arrives and seems to have a very high opinion of herself and her place in the opera, and she explains that the ghost is real.

He often comes to box five, and she hands him his program.

Well, and then that's the thing.

Is it Madame Giry or is it Meg? Is she on stage in the p- show, in that scene?

No.

She's there in the movie, though, and I think it's implied that it's Meg.

Then not Ma- it, it, it looks like Madame Giry.

Well, it's Madame Giry, but I think it's implied that it's, it's the actress playing Madame Giry as Meg Giry, like, all grown up.

I guess that would-

Right? 'Cause they're all-

She used to be kind of a mediocre singer.

Meg Giry says she used to sing like a crock, which is kind of hilarious.

But basically, she was good enough to be in the chorus or whatever of the opera, but nothing more.

Except that suddenly, at this big performance that was staged to mark the retirement of the two managers of the opera house, right, these guys named Debain and Poligny, at this performance, the main singer, Carlotta, who is normally the kind of prima donna, the main singer of the opera, she was randomly taken ill, and Christine Daaé was sort of randomly put in her place as her understudy.

According to one of the dancers, Jaume, the chorus master also saw the ghost recently when he was trying to get away from the Persian, who everyone thinks has the evil eye.

Another dancer, Meg Giry, reveals that her mother knows the ghost and makes sure that Box Five in the theater is always kept open for him and hands him his program, but she never sees him, and it's as if no one is there.

Eventually, Jaume's mother bursts in, saying that Joseph Buquet is dead.

He was found hanging in one of the cellars.

Because the scene with the girls kind of makes us think that maybe all of this is just ridiculous superstition.

I mean, the description of the ghost from Joseph Buquet is scary.

But then we also learn that another dancer, Meg Giry, feels like her mother has actually met and spoken to the ghost, but that the ghost doesn't look like anything.

He's just a voice, which again, how can that be if the ghost isn't really a ghost? So all of that seems very silly.

Sorelli tried to show more pluck than the others.

She went up to the door and, in a quavering voice, asked, "Who's there?" But nobody answered.

Then, feeling all eyes upon her, watching her last movement, she made an effort to show courage and said very loudly, "Is there anyone behind the door?" "Oh, yes, yes, of course there is," cried that little dried plum of a Meg Giry, heroically holding Sorelli back by her gauze skirt.
