Fourth, I do not think South-South cooperation or SSC always means a better deal.

I've written about this with Emma Maudsley from the University of Cambridge, with Meera Venkatachalam from the University of Mumbai, and my colleague Benedict de Boer from the University of Oslo.

Although South-South Cooperation often invokes solidarity, non-interference and win-win-win partnerships, there is in reality hard commercial bargaining and exceptionalist claims that great powers typically make about themselves.

So when China and India speak as representatives of the Global South, they also behave as major powers with very specific interests of their own.
