And, uh, and then Sarah and I are actually going this evening to see, uh, Medium Build, who I've talked about on the show before.

Uh, he's doing a concert, uh, downtown tonight, uh, so we're gonna go check out, uh, Medium Build.

Uh, so I'll, I'll get home and then, you know, get a few hours sleep and head early to the airport to get, get down to New York to kick off a very busy week in the city, which of course includes on Friday- Which is the 16th at 5:00 PM.

fun.Popped in the AirPods, listened to a couple of his albums while, uh, while working in the yard a little bit, you know? Like a, like a real [laughs] blue-collar worker that I am, and, uh, got getting my hands dirty in the dirt listening to Medium Build.

Megan, something else I think I've been saying with a lot of these episodes recently is how much I'm absolutely in love with this artist.

There are certain musicians we have on here who I'm just emotionally invested for the rest of time because of the generosity with their time, with their stories, and that's just, you know, in addition to their music that I am so excited about, and Nick Carpenter is no exception.

This was such a fun interview, and I think understanding where this record fits in the context of his career...

He's put out several records before this, and after 2024's Country, he was experiencing a lot of success, a lot of momentum, but it kind of consumed him.

And it was overwhelming.

He was partying too hard, and he had to take a step back, and it's such a triumphant return.

King of having fun, Nick Carpenter is indeed a lot [laughs] of fun, which you're going to experience in this interview and through these songs.

I love this album.

I think I'd recommend her new album.

Another artist, um, I've been listening to, his name's Medium Build.

Um, he has a great album out now.

[laughs] I feel like I could go on and on.

It's been a real Ben Affleck day for me.

And I know Medium Build has a song about that, too, but it...

I am a music nerd, so this is right up my alley.

Medium Build has a new album, King of Having Fun.

Medium Build, a.k.a. Nicholas Carpenter.

I remember when you recommended his last one.

I love the band name.

This is The Other 22 Hours, an exploration of the creative life lived in the in between.

[upbeat music] This week, we're featuring our conversation with Nick Carpenter, who is more widely known by his moniker Medium Build, who Nick took on as a moniker in 2015 after other projects, after trying his hand at the Nashville Music Row publishing, writing room, co-writes hustle, moving to Alaska where he really got Medium Build off the ground, and moving back to Nashville.

Everybody knows that you are a sum of the community that you keep, and some of the community that Nick and Medium Build can consider fans are the likes of John Mayer, Sir Elton John, Boy Genius, Zach Bryan.

He has toured with such a wide variety of people, including Role Model, Tyler Childers, Phineas, Holly Humberstone.

It's all over the map.

And he was so generous, and we really got to go deep about how to navigate the ups and downs.

Even sometimes the ups are even harder to navigate than the downs, professionally, I would say.

And it's a hilarious and also really beautiful, tender conversation with Nick Carpenter of Medium Build.

Um, "I just wanted to share how awesome and a little unsettling the Medium Build episode was.

So weird and cool to hear him talk about finding out about his sperm donor at 22.

I found out at 20.

Mine came from seven.

I also grew up in the Evangelical church world and felt a lot of the same emotions he described after finding out.

I was already stoked when you were doing a Medium Build episode because I'm a huge fan, but I didn't expect there'd be so many uncanny similarities.

I felt a kinship to his music without a specific reason why, and maybe this is it.
