Fitting, as we are in Sepsis Awareness Month.

We learned about acute dermatological presentations from dermatologist Dr. Mishumi Das, and we heard about the medico-legal considerations of telehealth and AI from Dr. Andrew Stacey of the Medical Protection Society.

and we got an update on the newly rolled out work-based assessments for the college from Dr Adrian Pimentel.

A survey by the Medical Protection Society, one of the medico-legal organisations that would support and represent doctors during a GMC investigation, a survey by the NPS in 2023 found that 78% of doctors who were investigated by the regulator said it had a detrimental impact on their mental health.

The length of investigations been criticised in the past.

One in 2018 after the case of Dr Hadiza Bauer-Garber, who was struck off and later restored to the medical register after an appeal.

And again in 2023 when they called for the leadership of both the GMC and the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service, the MPTS, to be replaced.

And during that 2023 vote, LMC's highlighted exactly the survey you just mentioned, the Medical Protection Society one.

And they spoke about the harrowing experience of being investigated by the GMC and in particular a case where a doctor was suspended needlessly.
