And we then started meeting for a couple hours on Friday afternoons.

And we had eight jurisdictions like Liberty Lake, Millwood, the Valley, City of Spokane, the County, Medical Lake, Cheney.

I'm missing somebody.

And they'd all get together.

It was quite bizarre.

I went to the thriving downtown area of Medical Lake yesterday.

Oh,

interesting.

Yes.

And it was quite a beautiful drive out there.

I don't go to Medical Lake.

Most people don't.

And so I talked about that and the gaps in services, right? How do we bust people out? So social workers, I'm not trained.

Years ago, Spokane had a big fire in Medical Lake, I think it was back in 2020 during the pandemic.

This is where

my dissertation started.

I love it.

I do a lot of genealogy research, and back in 2020 I found a distant cousin who I'll simply refer to as Orin.

He had been sent to what was then called Eastern Washington State Custodial School in Espanola, essentially part of Medical Lake, no later than 1935.

This means he was there by the time he was 15.

You see, back then it didn't take much to be sent to a facility.

Now, that brother-in-law later became her husband, in word by the 1940s, and in law not until 1963.

His crimes that I know of happened too late to be the cause of young Orin being sent to the asylum, but they did happen before 1942 and could have led to y- young Orin's sterilization.

But there was also his grandfather, who died in Medical Lake in 1932.

There's only one reason I know of for a man to be sent f- to end up in Medical Lake when his family is farming hundreds of miles away.

Well, no, everyone is insuring Luke's house.

And you forget that part of it was when we had the Medical Lake fires, that was probably what jumped up ours even more.

And so because you can't put it all on those guys rebuilding their house.

right because it would be unaffordable well a lot of them are struggling to find insurance yeah because they just got dropped
