It, not with my own publisher and my editor of 25 years.

So I've had the same editor who read a short story that I had published in Meanjin, and already then that short story, it, it was called Unpolished Gem, and it was, um, it, you know, he, he wrote back to me and said, "I, I love the feistiness of this voice, and it's funny." And then something that really made me happy is he says, "Do you know an author named Maxine Hong Kingston? You sound a little bit like her." And [laughs] I was really happy about that, that he recognized this was not a, a book like Wild Swans or Falling Leaves.

It was not, it, it was a different kind of voice.

So I never got that with my own publisher or my own editor.
