Sector figures are warning the abuse risks discouraging diverse candidates from standing at all at a time when councils are being urged to better reflect their communities.

Meander Valley Council is considering a plan to place A1 advertising panels on 17 rubbish bins in central Deloraine, saying the move would help financially support the North and Coast Post newspaper and give local businesses and community groups a place to promote notices.
