Me Talk Pretty One Day

I brought a book from a North Carolina transplant this week.

It is David Sedaris' Me Talk Pretty One Day.

I'm excited to talk about it.

That's nice.

Joseph, on the cover of your book, I see two.

One is like a chalkboard.

It says, me talk pretty one day.

Then it says David Darius's name, like written crudely by a teacher.

Short stories, essays.

You Take the Anderson and Me Talk Pretty One Day.

Uh, I read these when I was in, uh, 15 in Beijing in school, and that's the actual book I took to China.

That's the one.

That was always fabulous, and it's just really fucking funny.

Mmm, it's so funny.

I've read Me, Me Talk Pretty One Day.

I read it as an adult.

I have read almost all of David's books.

A couple years ago, I made a friend on a flight from Morocco to Paris when the woman sitting across the aisle asked me what book was making me laugh out loud.

David Sedaris, famous big name.

Yeah, me talk pretty one day.

He is a, you know, he writes for the New Yorker since 1995.

He's a humorist.

He can talk about anything.

Why

is this one called Me Talk Pretty One Day?

It's because it's actually one of his first ones.

Right.

Born a Crime won and Me Talk Pretty One Day also won.

Yeah, never heard of that prize.

Okay.

And he bought me a book.

He bought me, Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris.

It was a bit of a test because I think he thought if she laughs at this and if she thinks this book is funny, we'll get along because we'll have a similar sense of humour.

I love the book.

Like, look, I mean, so there's, there's a cla-- look, there's a class of people that are...

I, I always kinda quote the, uh, [chuckles] the title of an old David Sedaris book called Me Talk Pretty One Day 'cause it just makes me laugh.

But there's a class of people that sound smart, that are basically just, uh, sound intelligent to people whose intelligence is frankly pretty fucking mid.

And, you know, people in and around our space that are like this are like Udi sound smart, but, you know, it's actually just bullshit and trickery.
