there's this in in my extensive um conspiracy theories because i had to write a column for ev before he came around and killed me um there is this weird fia gt1 category floating around that's been suggested and originally it was sort of suggested it wouldn't be a weck type class but it might be a FIA sanctioned time attack type thing for hypercars like more closely related road going hypercars and I think they spoke to Pagani and Koenigsegg and a few other people but I know GMA up there and the talk was the homologation requirement was 75 cars and I think GMA up the production of the S I'll lose track of what they've done the one that looks like the McLaren F1 but the road version rather than the They were going to do 64 of those and they then sent letters to prospects saying it was going to go up to 75 and they explicitly mentioned they wanted to remain eligible.

Firm obligation stuff.

So I wonder if Porsche could easily do a straight replacement for Mission X if it wasn't electric.
Daven HiskeyHOST
33:48
That doesn't seem good.
Simon WhistlerHOST
33:50
McLaren, uh, isn't McLaren F1 was, uh, one seat in the front, two seats in the back.
Simon WhistlerHOST
33:55
It was the F1, right? I'm sure someone in the comments will correct me if I'm wrong.
Simon WhistlerHOST
33:59
But hugely expensive car.
Daven HiskeyHOST
36:10
Elon Musk, didn't he have one where he was driving with a friend of his? This was before he was really huge.
Daven HiskeyHOST
36:14
And then he key floored it when he was doing like 60 and it just spun around on the freeway.
Daven HiskeyHOST
36:19
The McLaren F1? I think it was a McLaren F1.
Daven HiskeyHOST
36:23
I think you're right.
MilesHOST
67:44
great yeah uh suspension um yeah lowering it all this sort of stuff but um uh that again this is why i'd like to go into a long sort of thing about all these but then you know there's there's ones um for different parts of the world there's an m3r in australia uh i don't know how many of those they built but that was let's 322 horsepower um most powerful production e36 m3
OwenHOST
68:17
was that car and importantly i think it's worth acknowledging that the uh the first three liter e36 m3 engine um they actually uh welded a second one together with a shared shared crankshaft and put it into a car that no one's ever heard of called mclaren f1 okay So the McLaren F1 was basically, they won't say it so directly, but basically, fundamentally, I'm being really simplistic.
OwenHOST
68:41
Apologies, Mr. Murray, but the concept was effectively two 3HM3 engines with the same crank.
MilesHOST
68:49
And then Germany gets a GTR version of the car.
Steve CropleyHOST
52:53
it was a book that just arrived from Porter Press, which is a well-known publisher of quite premium motoring books.
Steve CropleyHOST
53:03
And this one was called something like, I've got to remember, but it's the book of the McLaren F1.
Steve CropleyHOST
53:12
And I thought, good God, here we are in

decades after it was all over and yet forward by Gordon Murray and so on.
Steve CropleyHOST
53:20
I thought it was just a reheat of the history, but it turns out to be a little potted history and an illustration of every single McLaren F1 ever built, 160 odd of them, whatever it is.
Steve CropleyHOST
53:33
And, you know, a lovely illustrations, profile illustration of each one.
Steve CropleyHOST
53:42
with a potted history and an opportunity to buy a much bigger version of any one of these illustrations.
Terry McGeanHOST

They're chasing the GTOs and the F40s and the F50s, or GTO 288 GTO.
Terry McGeanHOST

They're the ones that, the really successful ones are driving up the price of the McLaren F1s.
Terry McGeanHOST

So not to speak so much of the higher end of the market, but...
Terry McGeanHOST
10:30
We want to think, what would the younger people do? Where is that intersection of the driving experience and the technology is still a fresh experience, and it meets with nostalgia.

Zack KlapmanHOST

Why did you buy this? Like, was this your poster dream car forever? And if so, why?
Eli CuevasGUEST
41:08
McLaren F1 and then the GT40.
Eli CuevasGUEST
41:11
McLaren F1 is well out of my fucking price range.
Matt FarahHOST
41:14
Yeah, how convenient that one of those is 1% of the cost of the other one.
Matt FarahHOST
41:18
That's insane.
Matt FarahHOST
41:18
Even if it's still really expensive.
Matt FarahHOST
41:19
That's, you know.
Eli CuevasGUEST
41:20
And I've wanted, I mean, since Need for Speed 2, it was like 1997, for the original PlayStation, that McLaren F1 was one of the cars in that game, and I remember watching that video.
Paul LoustalanGUEST
2:52
I haven't thought about that for a while, actually.
Paul LoustalanGUEST
2:56
Yeah, I guess the sort of poster on the wall, the proverbial poster on the wall was probably, I don't know, something like a McLaren F1 back in the day.
Ava GregoryHOST

Yeah.

Some iconic things, the Jaguar XJ220, all these things sort of came out there.

And the cars from the 1950s and 1960s, a third of everything on offer, were the only two decades where the median sale came in below Hagerty's own price guide.
Chris NaghibiHOST
47:47
