Aviation has always had a complicated relationship with the occupational health of the people who do it.

The hypoxia issues that affected certain naval aircraft in recent years, generating unexplained physiological episodes in T-45 and FA-18 pilots, took years of investigation.

Altitude-related research took decades to fully translate into practical decompression protocols.

The pattern is consistent.

What is a soft winging?

Uh, well, back in my day when you, sometimes you would do the boat first and then BFM or, you know, the little air to air syllabus in the T-45, and really the boat was the big deal.

Uh, so you were considered soft winged if you qualled from the boat and then just had your BFM left.

Uh, however, I don't, since they're not going to the boat anymore, I don't exactly know when they would soft wing, but I mean, congrats, man.

I was done.

I do have people that have, I know friends that have, in the T-45 and stuff.

I do know that it is not as much of a shot as what we're used to, Gonky, like, from that initial hit, right? Um, so I agree with whoever it was you quoted that said it's probably easier on the jets, right? Sure.

I mean, now the counter to that is, is as a Navy, if we're so concerned about the damage to our jets, maybe we shouldn't have used Super Hornets for 20 years as tankers.
