McCartney II

It's pretty good as far as phony Paul McCartney goes.

Hell, it even predates McCartney's own electronic foray with McCartney 2 by six years.

Yeah, it is very McCartney.

The body of work is pretty good.

I mean, I feel like I've, I've been like, I'll be like, mom, have you heard the 10-minute version of Check My Machine that's on McCartney 2? And she goes, I don't know what this is.

So now I've tried to lap her on the actual substance of McCartney and the solo career.

So she's not even the biggest temporary secretary fan, which I think that's kind of 101 solo McCartney to think is cool.

I've got this list up here before we do some blind ranking of a great, I saw this morning, a great little classic rock and culture kind of puff piece.

Paul McCartney, it became a singles machine after the Beatles split.

In fact, he's released more solo songs than his three former bandmates combined.

And as we know, because he's a man who cares about stats.

He's done it all.

Yeah.

You know? So McCartney has released more chart toppers than any other act in the UK.

And that's his game.

But what's the Paul McCartney one? That one's been recently re-evaluated and admired.

Which one? Press to Play? Oh, McCartney 2.

Yes, yes.

McCartney 2, that's the one I'm like, Press to Play? I don't think that one is.

I think people still don't like that one.

Yeah, McCartney 2.

Yeah.

That's coming up, which is a great song.

Now, I have two albums on my list, which for me were no-brainers, but I found it very, very hard to find a third one because of the strong reaction that I had to the first two albums when they were initially released for completely different reasons.

Um, the, the first one I guess, I guess the one that I should mention first on my list is McCartney II.

Hmm.

Uh, and again, to set the stage here now, uh, I, I say this all the time that, you know, I grew up in the '70s, and Wings basically provided me with the soundtrack to my youth.

And during this time, I was catching up with the Beatles stuff, getting most of my records at Christmastime, and piecing together my tastes, and knowing enough about listening to Revolver and Sgt. Pepper, and knowing where their place was, knowing what to expect even before I got the albums for the most part, and knowing what their place was.

So, um, you know, there was no surprises when it came to the Beatles' music.

So McCartney II for me though, was the first time I can honestly say that an album was like, uh, for me, was getting, like having ice cold water dumped over my head, and I didn't, I wasn't ready for it.

Um, of the solo albums that I was familiar with, they, I liked all the ones that I was familiar with that I owned.

He had this weird, like, switch up.

Because you can listen to, for example, Ram, or McCartney 1, McCartney 2 even, and then you listen to New or Egyptian Station, and it's almost a different sound.

But in this case, he seems to battle the old and the new.

Yeah, and there's some, you know, and songs go from being starting out slow into like rockers, and there's a psychedelic one that could have been on Sgt. Pepper, and I have another.

I mean, maybe the idea was saturate the market.

Ever since McCartney 2, he's been getting into that 12-inch club thing.

And here it's on steroids with all the different 12-inch mixes of every damn song.

Yeah, it's a fun enough song.

I think that the stuff like Talk More Talk and Pretty Little Head, irrespective of original or remix, they're not on a Mac-a-mix of mine.

I don't need to hear those.

I mean, it begs the question, and I don't know from whom, but what's a lower floor? Talk More Talk from Press to Play or Darkroom from McCartney 2? Ooh.
