Like, you know, Bobbito actually took me on my first tour overseas to Europe, you know what I mean? And that was incredible.

And, you know, I ended up signing a deal in MCA Records in the year, I think, 2000 or 2001.

And that's when I came out with joints like Bacardi Slang, Old Time Killin'.

And, you know, it really, things started to take off for me from there.

You got to come back.

Before we leave, we ask everybody in this conversation, being that you've been through so much, being that this album was somewhat liberating for you, being that you've been through so many twists and turns in your career, executive, artist, father, husband, what would you tell Cardi that first sign is still with MCA Records in 2001, what would you tell him now? Or like, what would you tell him, knowing everything you know right now, what would you tell him back then? There goes the

camera right there.

And they always let me do what I wanted to do in the studio.

So I felt like, hey, I'm with the biggest, you know, Universal MCA, the biggest record company, but they never bothered me in the studio.

They've never they never called me and said, we want to put you with this producer, that producer.

They trusted me.

You just got to release it on different platforms.

Back in the 80s and the 90s, if you want to get, all you had to do was release it in a different platform, you still could have done that.

With being with Universal MCA back in the day, I knew how to write universally.

So songs like Oh Sheila, Love You Down, Tonight, I still was saying exactly what I wanted to say in everything.

He'd been an executive at A&M.

Gormley negotiated a release for the band from the A&M contract and negotiated a new solo deal for Danny Elfman with MCA Records.

During this transition period for Elfman, Oingo Boingo contributed original material to the movie Bachelor Party in 1984.

It was a Tom Hanks film.

And this included a custom-written title track, Bachelor Party, which recapped the movie's plot, and an exclusive track titled Something Isn't Right, as well as using their own track that they'd already recorded, Who Do You Want to Be, in the film.

With this new contract at MCA Records, the band went on a short hiatus.

First album on MCA would be Solo in November of 84, released as a Danny Elfman solo project.

But it really wasn't a solo album at all, as previous members of Oingo Boingo were credited as session musicians, together with a recently formed Red Hot Chili Peppers band, Bassist Flea.

Like we were literally in there, you know what I'm saying? Just waiting for our opportunity to go and, you know what I mean? Like drop 16 bars here, work with this person or whatever.

And that's literally how I got my deal with MCA Records in New York.

I mean, in LA, sorry.

Like the reality was like we started going like number one on all the college radio stations.

Okay, okay.

This has happened to me before, because there must be somebody on their team that's a Bobby, and then they add you, because that's happened to me with MCA Records, I think, some artist stuff.

They added me accidentally.

Yeah.
