movie.
Peter VrionisHOST
17:23
You know why I think I hate flying? It's because I used to watch Mayday with my dad all the time.
Peter VrionisHOST
17:28
Yeah.
Joey EliasHOST
17:29
Do you know what drives me nuts about that show? Is when you get on a plane and you have options, you know, like you have cable on the plane and somebody next to you decides to watch Mayday on the plane.
Peter VrionisHOST
17:41
Yeah, what are you doing?
Joey EliasHOST
17:42
Like, honestly, when that happens...
LeighHOST
12:14
So I think at around the age of maybe 14, 15, 16, it was very much...
LeighHOST
12:20
Obviously, that's an impressionable age, but it was a catalyst for my curiosity and my inquisitivity and just... understanding like how the world works around me right i think that's probably when i realized that i should be a journalist or work in the public space right so uh i'd been very much i think from around the age of maybe 11 12 i started watching aircraft investigation and i can i can definitively say that the very first thing that i remember in terms of the introduction to the was an episode from air crash investigation about 9-11 so when i started doing a deep a deep dive i was like what is 9-11 what is it about what's happening here what's what's the significance of it and then i did a deep dive and i realized what exactly it was and i was like damn that's kind of crazy i didn't obviously think about the significance of it or like think about how many people lost their lives it was always very much like thing of like wow they all these planes are lost like how do planes work all of that i've always been pretty much of an aviation nut like i'm very much obsessed with planes anytime you see a plane overhead anyone will tell you like when there's a plane overhead i'm always looking to see what type of plane it is like My personal favorite is the 747.
LeighHOST
13:43
I love how it's built and how it looks.
LeighHOST
13:46
Aerodynamically, it looks very beautiful.
Patrick MadridHOST
30:59
Of course, the same could be said of all professions.
Patrick MadridHOST
31:02
I was watching a show called Air Disasters last night, and the episode I watched was about a fire that broke out in the cockpit and shut down all the systems, navigation instruments, et cetera.
Patrick MadridHOST
31:12
Can you imagine what happened? Could you imagine that happening When there's no human who could take over, of course, even with the humans there, planes do go down.
Patrick MadridHOST
31:22
But why would we leave ourselves with AI as the only option? Even if the AI does all the work, the pilots may become too comfortable and forget how to do their jobs.
Ricky HaybergHOST
3:51
Let me play with the controls.
Ricky HaybergHOST
3:53
It's going to be like that Air Disasters episode where those Russian pilots let their kids hold the sticks for a while.
Ricky HaybergHOST
3:58
Oh, my God.
Eliot DewberryHOST
3:58
Yeah.
TomHOST
10:36
Somebody in the audience might be happy to hear that we're going to cover an obscure accident.
TomHOST
10:40
However, this was covered on the Canadian show Mayday Air Disaster.
TomHOST
10:45
So I don't know, Mike, you're a big fan of Mayday, aren't you?

10:49
Where some see heroes and others see egos, Bloomberg sees the era of billionaire athletes.

10:57
A fad to some, the future of money to others.
TomHOST
11:27
Big fan, big fan, big fan.
TomHOST
11:30
I love that show.
TomHOST
11:31
I love Mayday or Disaster.
Tan ArulampalamHOST
23:33
So it's interesting.
Tan ArulampalamHOST
23:34
So fortunately for me, my eldest son used to watch a program called Air Crash Investigation.
Tan ArulampalamHOST
23:40
And I can remember watching the Turkish Airlines crash.
Tan ArulampalamHOST
23:45
And the pilot or co-pilot just put the safety checklist under the seat.

Daniella says, "Improperly labeled and package- packaged oxygen generators that still had oxygen-generating chemicals inside caused the fire that led to the crash of Valuejet flight 592.
ChristyHOST
76:37
If anyone listening hasn't seen the Mayday/Air Disasters episode on this crash, or any image of Valuejet's livery, they had a cutesy cartoon jet by the cockpit, and I'm old enough that I can remember seeing a few of their planes at airports.
ChristyHOST
76:56
Never flew in one, though."
NickHOST
76:57
That's probably for the best.

17 MINS LATER

ChristyHOST
94:24
I don't even know if I have one.
NickHOST
94:25
Um...
ChristyHOST
94:27
Does that include air disasters? [laughs]
MirandaHOST
94:29
The trailers I've seen for the Pan Am drama on Netflix look-
HoffersHOST
46:46
Incredible.
BradyHOST
46:47
I watched the air crash investigation episode or Mayday, depending on what you call that TV show.
BradyHOST
46:52
I watched it.
BradyHOST
46:53
Two things I will say about it.

10 MINS LATER

HoffersHOST
56:39
Even the speed, you know, like when the, you know, suddenly these people, I mean, people are getting windburn on this Aloha flight because, you know, they're now being flapping around in...
HoffersHOST
56:48
You know, 500 kilometres an hour.
HoffersHOST
56:50
There was one dude who looked like he had a toupee in the Mayday episode and that didn't look like it went very well for him after
BradyHOST
56:57
being in that environment.
