Maui County

There's more just offshore to the south.

Not a lot of rainfall for Maui County.

We've been pretty wet along the Ko'olau all day long, light to moderate showers there.

And the radar on Kauai side is, uh, apparently out again.

You can think of Pearl Harbor, of course.

I'm from Maui County, which is... three islands, or four islands, one of them, Kaho'olawe, was used for bombing practice by the U.S. military, still is not inhabited because there are still, I think, I believe, some unexploded ordnance there.

My mother and father's lifetime, they remember the bombing still happening.

I don't, but, you know, lots of scars like physical scars and cultural scars i think um

At last check, just more than 21,500 customers are impacted across Oahu.

About 2,700 are without power in Maui County.

The vast majorities are in the Wailuku area.

Hawaii Island has about 100 in the dark, primarily in the Kau'u District.

The suspect was identified as 20-year-old Legend Storer, a former Maui High School honor student, two-time MIL championship swimmer, and former NCAA student-athlete whose athletic career had unraveled after his California collegiate swim program was discontinued.

Following Dyer's death, a Maui County grand jury indicted Storer on charges of second-degree murder, first-degree burglary with a dangerous instrument, and indecent exposure.

Because Dyer was 63 years old, prosecutors applied Hawaii's statutory elder protection enhancements, seeking a mandatory minimum sentence of life imprisonment without parole.

while defense counsel initiated court-ordered forensic psychiatric sanity evaluations to assess acute psychosis and criminal competency.

Yeah, and, and we're gonna talk about September, October in particular, but this is a year-round thing for you with, with different events throughout the year.

This is definitely our busy time for sure, yes, with Festivals of Aloha, and most recently last year we brought back the Maui County Fair.

So just a lot of things happening every weekend in September and October, including the Celebration of the Arts.

Yeah, the 34th annual Celebration of the Arts, it's, it's gonna be September 18th and 19th.

Um, and then we brought in Makawao this last year, and they're having their rodeo October 23rd to the 25th.

So if you're a country cowboy, cowgirl, and you're missing home, this is the experience for you, and you'll be able to see our Hawaiian cowboys, our paniolo, in action.

Um, and of course, October 1 to the 4 is our Maui County Fair, and everyone is invited to come and join us there.

There is no shortage of things to find on every part, uh, of this island and, and the nearby islands as well o- over the coming months.
