This how long, this is how long it's been languishing, this matter.

Council Chair Alice Lee asked the Maui Police Department this past July to open a criminal investigation.

But shortly after that, I got another letter from the police department saying that, uh, they are not going to be involved in an investigation because the matter was just sent to the, um, referred to the state AG's office by the prosecuting attorney.

Correspondence between the county and MPD last month shows State Attorney General's Public Corruption Details Supervisor, David Van Acker, told the police department they had already been investigating claims by Ochiara and a second employee who is suing Bissen and the county for defamation, as well as other public corruption within Maui County.

We've also are working on safe sleeping areas, so for folks who don't have cars, um, while we do that on county-owned land.

Um, so there have been steps taken, uh, with our Department of Human Concerns, the Maui Police Department, Public Works.

We have a lot of folks working together to, uh, put this together.

But what I will say is we continue to maintain, um, the cleaning up of that area, sanitation, uh, health concerns, uh, for our, for those folks that find themselves in that situation.

The next witness was Anthony Fred Earls, a police evidence specialist with the Maui Police Department who assisted in the execution of the search warrant on the white SUV.

Photos of the vehicle were shown to the court, including a close-up of the passenger side visor.

There were blonde hairs found on both sides of the visor.

The investigation is ongoing.

Over the weekend, the Maui Police Department partnered with the Hawaii Department of Law Enforcement for a buyback event in Kahului.

Maui residents turned in nearly 40 firearms and 58 pounds of illegal fireworks.

In exchange, residents received Foodland gift cards.
