Matthew 5:17

Instead, his message is, you think God wants the floor of the law, but God wants the ceiling.

Let's pick up in Matthew 5, verse 17.

Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets.

I have not come to abolish them, but to fulfill them.

Because the book of Hebrews shows how Christ fulfilled the role of the high priest, which is described in Leviticus 16.

Now, there is a scripture in Matthew 5.17 that you and I have read many a time.

Matthew 5.17 says, which says, do not think that I come to destroy the law of the prophets.

I do not come to destroy, but to fulfill.

And quite often and quite correctly, we interpret that as meaning that Christ came to obey.

The Lord gave the law to warn us, to protect us, right? Right? In Psalm 19, 11, from the evil that is out there and the way that we are protected is we stay within the confines of what Jesus Christ himself came to fulfill.
