Matchstick Men

Allison Loban is 47 now.

She was Nicolas Cage's kid in Matchstick Men many years ago.

She also played Tim McGraw's daughter in Flicka.

I think it was called.

My number nine would be Gladiator 2.

My number eight would be Matchstick Men.

Then it would be Domino.

Then it would be Beverly Hills Cop 2.

I mean, it is amazing.

And, of course, he went on and did Charlie's Angels, Heist, Welcome to Collinwood, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Matchstick Men, The Assassination of Jesse James, Moon, which is a... a really sort of underrated sci-fi film from maybe 10, 15 years ago written by David Bowie's son, or directed by David Bowie's son, maybe also written by Bowie's son, who has a name of his own, but I can't remember what his name is because really it's just David Bowie Jr. to me.

And he was also in White Lotus.

Go ahead and talk about the background of Galaxy Quest before we diverge more.

And Bagger Vance is always on the list, as is Animal House, as is my cousin Benny, as is Spielberg's Lincoln.

And the other one, you know, sometimes Matchstick Men is there, sometimes Underground is there.

But those three or four are always there.

Yeah, you always have certain favorites, and then there's a couple that might fluctuate depending on what mood you're in on that day.

Maybe not...

I mean, "Alien," "Blade Runner," "Thelma & Louise." I would say Mat- "Matchstick Men" for the 2000s.

I think a lot of people would say "Gladiator." Um, I think "The Martian" kind of occupies that space for the 2010s.

Like that's a beloved mo- I wouldn't say it's on the same level, but it's a good movie.

You ever saw Matchstick Man with Nick Cage? Mm-mm.

He's a con man.

His daughter shows up when she's like 15 out of nowhere.

Well, and then he follows that with Matchstick Men, which is Nicolas Cage, Sam Rockwell.

That was a great movie.

Kingdom of Heaven, which I think is highly, highly underrated.

But I don't care, 'cause I like this movie considerably more than both of them.

And so I am taking, with my third pick, 2003's Matchstick Men.

Oh my God.

[laughs] I'm so sorry.

[laughs] Wacky.

And I wanna hear the explanation so bad.

What's there not to like about Matchstick Men? Another great star giving a great performance in a Ridley Scott film.

I think Nicolas Cage is doing exactly what Nicolas Cage should do in a film, being a star.
