Masters of Cinema

I cannot wait.

I've said it before, I'll say it again, I absolutely adore Masters of Cinema, the Eureka Masters of Cinema, Deafa releases.

Eureka also brings us one that I've heard of, but I've never seen, Steve, 1958's The Screaming Skull.

The Screaming Skull is a motion picture that reaches its climax in shocking horror.

I probably watched it on DVD when it came out 20 years ago.

I know it's exactly 20 years ago because the Blu-ray, which we're talking about, released by Eureka, Masters of Cinema, includes a making of which was made for that DVD release in 2006.

I should say, by way of preface, before we go on to talk about the film itself...

And as in the interests of full disclosure, I realised watching the disc that I know just about everybody who worked on this release, not only the present release, but also the original DVD release.

This, hopefully this isn't too challenging for you to find.

Um, I picked up a box set from Eureka under their Masters of Cinema, um, label about a month ago.

Um, oh, what's the box set called? The box set's called Strange New World: Science Fiction at DEFA.

So DEFA was basically the state-owned film studio of East Germany.

Masters of Cinema release contains four films, Chinga Chook, The Great Serpent, Fatal Error, Apaches and Blood Brothers.

The limited edition set comes with a collector's booklet, new audio commentary on Apaches by film historian Michael Brook, he's popping up again, new interview with East German cinema expert Sean Allen and a new video essay on depictions of American history in Deafers Westerns, Indiana films as they're known, by Western scholar Jenny Barrett.

Eureka also have a Masters of Cinema release, unlimited edition, dual format, 4K UHD and and Blu-ray.
