I, I don't remember.
MartijnHOST
29:26
Um, I think it was used for a Master of Orion or something for the first time, this term, but definitely applicable to this one as well.
MartijnHOST
29:35
One of the first of its kind, really.
MartijnHOST
29:37
Right.

in a distance?
MartijnHOST
122:44
The, the, the, the...
MartijnHOST
122:45
I don't know how it exactly played out, but I feel one of the key things that MicroProse did was they, uh, acquired Simtex, which is the developer of, um, Master of Magic and Master of Orion, and they brought them into the MicroProse brand and then closed them down.
MartijnHOST
123:05
And, you know, Simtex was just, ugh, completely eliminated.
Burnie BurnsHOST
18:59
I don't know, I, I remember playing Might & Magic for a long time when I was younger.
Burnie BurnsHOST
19:03
Like that and, like, Masters of Orion.
Burnie BurnsHOST
19:05
It's like I d- I, I, I'm tempted, but it's 30 bucks for that game, so I, I didn't make the jump.
Burnie BurnsHOST
19:10
I didn't do it.
Tom VaselHOST
3:21
Seven out of ten.
Tom VaselHOST
3:22
Master of Orion, the board game.
Tom VaselHOST
3:24
Masters of Orion, of course, being one of the best video games of all time.
Tom VaselHOST
3:28
But unfortunately, or fortunately, this board game doesn't really copy that game, but it is a good, solid little Euro-style game.
DanGUEST
1:45
Yeah, so definitely.
DrexyHOST
1:47
So, so what brought you to remake Ascendancy or base your game on Ascendancy? Because, you know, we've had so many Master of Orion clones and what else, but I don't think we've ever had one based on Ascendancy.
DanGUEST
2:00
Yeah.
DanGUEST
2:02
Look, I mean, uh, uh, to, to be honest with you, it was, uh, one of those, uh, things that I wanted to play Ascendancy.

7 MINS LATER

DanGUEST
9:37
Um, and just the, the atmosphere of it.
DanGUEST
9:41
I mean, Ascendancy as far as 4X games are concerned, was never really a very complex game, I would say.
DanGUEST
9:48
It wasn't, you know, at the level of like, you know, Master of Orion or anything like that, or maybe, uh, the later Stellaris where, you know, things are uber complicated [laughs] for my taste.
DanGUEST
10:00
Um, it's, it's really more of an atmospheric art piece.
DaveHOST
27:23
It could do it for all of the LucasArts adventure games before Sam & Max and Day of the Tentacle.
DaveHOST
27:30
It could do Ultima 6, Wizardry 7, Eye of the Beholder 1 and 2, almost all the Gold Box games, flight sims like Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe, F-117, Aces of the Pacific, strategy games like Masters of Orion, Darklands, and Sierra games up to and including the end of 1992 ran great on a 286-2.
DaveHOST
27:53
But one thing you'd need to get for a rescued Office 286 that your dad took home from the office rather than put in the bin was to upgrade the ISA slots by putting in upgrade cards.
DaveHOST
28:06
And back in the day, that would mean something like an Oak VGA card, potentially expensive RAM upgrades and a sound card.
Charlie McCarronHOST
17:53
But what would you recommend for people in trying to convert a video game experience into board games?
Ananda GuneratneHOST
18:05
Well, I think a lot of Civilization games I've played, even as video games, have run into a major pitfall, which is typically, often how this goes, especially in like Civilization and a bunch of games like Master of Orion that are, Master of Orion is basically just Civilization in space.
Ananda GuneratneHOST
18:27
One issue there often is, at the start of the game, you've got one city, right? And you're managing that city and you're making decisions on what they're going to build and what they're going to produce, what military units they're going to have and all this stuff.
Ananda GuneratneHOST
18:41
And then you go and send out your settlers and they found new cities, right? And before you know it, you've got like 10 cities, 15 cities, or planets, or whatever.
