Comedian Aziz Ansari relies on the gentle rhythms of life rather than the heavy backbeat of plot for his work as actor, director, and Emmy-winning writer on projects such as Master of None and his recent feature film, Good Fortune.

For The Treat, it's fitting that Ansari tunes in to the oeuvre of a filmmaker who's also attracted to a nuanced flow of ebbs and flows in comedy-drama.

He had yet to direct [laughs] his last film, his first directoral debut, Good Fortune.

He was here for the third season of a show called Master of None.

He's done pretty well since the last time we've seen him, so it's a pleasure to have you back here.

Oh, thanks so much for having me.

I was just wondering, this feels like this new phase of your career in the last 10 years, you've been out to sort of build community.

I guess that's always been a theme in a lot of my work.

I mean, y- you know, the first thing that I, that I wrote that really got a lot of acclaim was that parents episode of Master of None, which my friend Alan Yang and I wrote based on our real experience of, of, of feeling like we weren't connecting with our parents in some certain way.

And, you know, that theme has continued in my work, and, you know, obviously the, your first level of community is family.

Right.

So, like, this week, Master of None came back out.

So everybody thinks I'm from Master of None.

And you're not correcting

that.
