Massachusetts Route 2

I'm here.

44-year-old Ronald Martel led state police on a chase with a red pickup truck yesterday morning on Route 2 in Acton.

Radio traffic indicated that the pursuit began around 2 a.m., went through several towns, with the truck losing all four tires.

We can hear some courtroom audio from WCVB.

And then I played with Don Stover And the White Oak Mountain Boys, we had a steady gig out in Greenfield, Massachusetts at the Red Dog Saloon.

We would play every Friday and Saturday night, way out Route 2 in central Massachusetts.

And we would spend the night on Friday night and then play Saturday night.

The shows would end at 1 or 2 in the morning and would drive back early Sunday morning on across the Route 2, which is called the Mohawk Trail.

And it winds through hills bordering on mountains.

And the snowplows never started on Sunday morning.

And going through Somerville is what we generally called going the back way to the airport.

For those of you who are familiar with Boston, if I tell you State Route 16, which comes from that junction that All-Wife Parkway at Route 2 comes around one edge of Somerville, joins Route 1 where it hits Route 99 and goes on to Everett, you know what I'm talking about.

All these highways, 2, 2A, 16, they're tight, fast, and unforgiving.

The fact that Somerville could take those roads along with surface streets, and make it in such a way that nobody died in four years from a traffic accident.

That same story is in Greenfield, Massachusetts.

There's a bridge over Route 2, and I've done it.

I've put my car there, and I've put it in neutral, and yeah, it looks like you're rolling uphill.

The reality is there's a little bit of a dip in the road, so you get a little momentum, and then you start to go up a hill.

We have a lot of clouds moving in, hinting at what's to come, but the actual arrival for rain is late tonight for many spots.

So you have to move toward areas along and north of Route 2 to see this rain start to move in during the evening commute.

And that's the main reason we've gone ahead with the impact weather day, because the evening commute will get slowed down in these spots as you move into southern New Hampshire, especially for Boston.

While your evening commute looks dry, we have rain moving in late tonight.

So at this point, we're just tracking heavier clouds that will stay around through the rest of today.

Here's those showers around 5 p.m. for areas right along and north of Route 2, northern Worcester County into southern New Hampshire, shifting eastward toward Boston by 10 o'clock tonight.

And then you can see things are shifting out of here early tomorrow morning.

You can see that does stretch into the Monadnock region of New Hampshire.

In Orange, you're dealing with some of these light showers that's spreading eastward along Route 2.

And I expect this area of rain will get closer to Boston over the next hour.

This has it moving in toward the city around 630.

And there isn't many options coming from the North into Boston, like there are from the West or the South.

You've got 93, you've got Route 2, which is brutal to get into Elwife, or on 93, you get off at Sullivan Square and try to cross the Charlestown Bridge.

So those are your only options.

And It's just hell.

Well, 495 going out, going to New York.

We're on 495 outside of Acton.

So beyond Route 2.
