It was not, however, so much in the hope of diverting Protestants from Freemasonry as in the desire to show to Catholics that all kinds of secret societies were as bad as, if not worse than, Freemasonry, were in fact united with and under the rule of the worst form of Freemasonry, that the lecturer essayed to speak at all upon the subject.

If what he said could influence anyone outside the Church from joining the worse than folly of British Masonry, he would rejoice at the result.

But his principal aim was to save his own co-religionists from an evil far more pernicious to them than British Masonry has ever been to Protestants.

In this latter design he was glad to learn that he had considerable success, and amongst those who heard or read his utterances very many expressed a desire to see what he happened to have said in a permanent form.

Notwithstanding the difficulties of doing this with any effect during a vacation tour, he determined at whatever cost to himself to gratify their wishes and therefore took advantage of a few weeks' rest while spending Christmas in his alma mater, All Hallows College, Dublin, to put both lectures into the shape in which he now presents them to such as may desire to read them.

For instance, infidelity, as it is now known in the world, never, it may be said, existed to any appreciable extent before the time of Voltaire.

Voltaire devoted his whole life to spread infidelity and destroy Christianity.

Do the Masons benefit from any of this? And I'm asking because you were initiated into Freemasonry.

But Masonry as a whole, [sighs] this is a spiritual war, okay, that you're talking about when you c- like when it gets to a higher level.

Like when we talk about mundane things, I think Masons are involved, of course.

Like Masons are historically very involved with politics.

You know, a lot of, a lot of, uh, uh, people are initiated, whether it's, you know, Masonry is one aspect, or whether it's the Knights of Malta or other, uh, various other orders and, and, and sects.

You know, the, the Golden, Knights of the Golden Fleece.

I mean, there's countless of these secret orders, right? And the, the people involved with them, of course, have, uh, uh, you know, spiritual beliefs, maybe about the, you know, maybe about the, the rebuilding of Solomon's Temple.

Maybe that's, you know, maybe that's their belief.

Uh, and, uh, so that's, you know, um...

And don't forget, Masonry, which is very Jud- Judaic in many ways, penetrated some of the great noble families at the time all the way, all the way up to the revolution.

The confusion that reigned in the minds of those days was brought to light with greater significance and reach by P.B. Struve, who devoted his entire life to breaking down the obstacles erected on the path that would lead him from Marxism to the rule of law, and along the way, also obstacles of other kinds.

Thus, it represented the constitution of the average individual, who is a combination of both the higher and the lower elements.

The three divisions of the tabernacle should have a special interest to Freemasons, for they represent the three degrees of the Blue Lodge, while the three orders of priests who served the tabernacle are preserved to modern Masonry as the Entered Apprentice, the Fellow Craftsman, and the Master Mason.

The Hawaiian islanders built a tabernacle not unlike that of the Jews, except that their rooms were one above another and not one behind another, as in the case of the tabernacle of the Israelites.

The three rooms are also the three important chambers of the Great Pyramid of Gizeh.

The Fraternity of the Rose Cross.

Who were the Rosicrucians? Were they an organization of profound thinkers rebelling against the inquisitional religious and philosophical limitations of their time or were they isolated transcendentalists united only by the similarity of their viewpoints and deductions? Where was the House of the Holy Spirit, in which, according to their manifestos, they met once a year to plan the future activities of their Order? Who was the mysterious person referred to as Our Illustrious Father and Brother C.R.C.? Did those three letters actually stand for the words Christian Rosy Cross? Was Christian Rosenkreutz, the supposed author of The Chymical Nuptials, the same person who with three others founded The Society of the Rose Cross? What relationship existed between Rosicrucianism and medieval Freemasonry? Why were the destinies of these two organizations so closely interwoven? Is the Brotherhood of the Rose Cross the much sought-after link connecting the Freemasonry of the Middle Ages with the symbolism and mysticism of antiquity, and are its secrets being perpetuated by modern Masonry? Did the original Rosicrucian Order disintegrate in the latter part of the eighteenth century, or does the Society still exist as an organization, maintaining the same secrecy for which it was originally famous? What was the true purpose for which the Brotherhood of the Rose Cross was formed? Were the Rosicrucians a religious and philosophic brotherhood, as they claimed to be, or were their avowed tenets a blind to conceal the true object of the Fraternity, which possibly was the political control of Europe? These are some of the problems involved in the study of Rosicrucianism.
