Mason Cup

So, uh, like you said, there's been some pretty crazy moments in that building in Mankato.

Um, one of them, uh, when we were talking on the phone setting this up, involving one of your good old friends who just announced his, uh, retirement after the season, Tom Serratore, in the, uh, 2022 Mason Cup Final.

[laughs]

Um, this story has been beat to death by every hockey podcast out there be- c- for good reason 'cause it's insane, but I don't think we've ever heard it from your point of view.

Um, it goes with the job.

That's, to me, the two best days are when you're presenting the MacNaughton and the Mason Cup.

Um, and, you know, we, we talked about different scenarios at our spring meetings, but ultimately they, they need to say, you know, "That's your job.

You decide.

[laughs] So-

Air freight that trophy, that's for sure.

Well, it's interesting, like even the Mason Cup, we, you know, when the, the first year, it's like, where the heck is it? You know, we had to g- go back and research it, and, uh, who's got the Mason Cup? And, and lo and behold, I forgot it was Notre Dame.

It was, it was my son's, uh, freshman year.

can probably tell, it was time.

The way that the Beavers play hockey is just the way that even when they were winning the Mason Cup, or not Mason Cup, McNaughton Cup, their arena was still empty.

Their arena was still empty.

So just because no one wants to watch that style of play.

And they're two completely different teams like Minnesota State is coming off of obviously another great season.

a McNaughton Cup championship, a Mason Cup championship.

But they lost a ton.

And obviously the big losses being Murr, Lemire, Tracy.

However, I do think that one, whoever it ends up being, will also be an automatic bid team too.

So I do think the CCHA will – or not an automatic bid, an at-large bid.

I think the CCHA will have a team in that at-large position and it will come down to that Mason Cup weekend hopefully to maybe the league's rooting for a bid stealer that takes a spot away from a Big Ten or a Hockey East or an NCHC team and then they get two in that way.

I think that's kind of how I see this playing out.
