The always fascinating Robert Smith wrote Love Song in 1988 as a wedding present for his wife, Mary Poole, after realizing he hadn't gotten her a proper traditional romantic gift.

Robert and Mary met at age 14 in drama class at St. Wilfred's Comprehensive School in Crawley, England, and they stayed together as he rose to fame.

They married in the summer of 1988 during a break from recording.

He's been with the same person since middle school.
