Is that sort of what you would say, you know, challenge leaders to do?

Yes.

And, you know, there is a lead in many of the subject discourses on socials, for instance, Substack.

And I'm thinking in particular of geography right now.

It's a terrific, terrific Substack post where they were talking about think about the architecture before the bricks.

and so it that uh challenge with what i've noticed and talked about is even with the current national curriculum there's a tendency to go straight to the programs of study tick those off one by one actually what we need to be doing is first of all taking a look at the purpose the intent statements purpose of the subject which always beautifully framed about the difference they make to young people's lives and you know the maths for example talks about joy Which is lovely.

I mean, that's by the by.

But for that length of time, but it had that disproportionate

the profiling of pupils needs to be really robust, really precise, and the additional support stroke interventions are as precise, closely connected to what's been diagnosed, and have impact as quickly as possible.

And then careful thought about timetabling.

So when the children are brought out of lessons in order to build it, it's a big ask, but there are very small schools who are thinking very intentionally and very carefully about this.

My concern is when children get locked into a loop of continued withdrawal from classes and

no one is checking to see how they're getting on.

And I think we've really got to hold ourselves to account because this is a very expensive model.

It's worth it when it works, but we can't have that level of additional provision without making sure it's really making the difference to those individual children.

Tell us just from your broad picture, what's your sense of why did you come to this? What's the interest in this? What motivated you to write this book?

Yeah, so before I answer that, just to say in terms of the international audience, it's interesting that within about the first few hours I had people from the States, from Brazil, from the Far East already saying, well, they've already put in orders, which was complete mystery to me.

But anyway, so it's, I think this idea that there are certain, this phase of schooling has in many parts of the sector been neglected.

And it's never a blame game, because it's my view, everyone's doing the best they can with the resources they have.

But I think it hasn't had the same intentional focus on it that other parts of the other phases have.

And for understandable reasons, because, you know, at the end of key stage two, you've got...

In England and UK, you've got public examinations and schools to varying degrees.
