E io devo dire quando ho visto la rivista è stata una sorpresa.

L'articolo sapevo che c'era, ma trovarmi sulla copertina è stata una sorpresa e so che è stato Marvin Shanken a deciderlo, probabilmente perché ha riconosciuto quello che ho fatto per la denominazione a cui appartenevo, quindi, eh, le denominazioni, ma anche per promuovere il made in Italy negli Stati Uniti e nel mondo.

Quindi è stato un riconoscimento importante che mi ha dato una grandissima soddisfazione.

Ancora adesso oltreoceano, qualche volta quando vado a fare il mio lavoro costante, quello che faccio da quarant'anni, mi dicono: "Ah, tu eri sulla copertina di Wine Spectator".

[upbeat music] All right, uh, Daniel Marsteller over at Shanken, a news daily, um, has some market data on the US wine industry, and it's basically slipping 3.5% in 2026.

The big, big, big part about this is it's gonna put us behind those three hundred million cases for the first time in, since, uh, about 2011.

It peaked in 2020 at three hundred and forty-four million cases.

Why are we both smoking Cohiba cigars? Well, today, the subject of our podcast is the Cohiba brand, and Cohiba is on our minds right now because it is the 60th anniversary of this very famous Cuban brand.

And I'm gonna get us started with a quote, a quote from Marvin Shanken that appeared in a story we wrote about Cohiba back for the 50th anniversary.

He said, "When you think of Cuba, you think of cigars, and when you think of Cuban cigars, you think of Cohiba." And I think that really holds true.

He said it very well.
