Exterior shots for Arnold took place at the Mount Calmia Estate, also known as the Fairy Lady Castle, on Sunset Boulevard and Sweetser Avenue in Los Angeles.

Now owned by actor Johnny Depp, the castle was built in 1932 and was once home to Motown producer Barry Gordy, divorce lawyer Marvin Mitchelson, and Noah Dietrich, the man who ran Howard Hughes' movie-making empire, according to an LA Times article published in 2006.

The movie's interiors were shot at Paramount Studios.

British actor Murray Matheson, veteran of films and television, provided the voice for Arnold's corpse.
