And he talks about he brings a Jewish perspective to everything.

And he is

And that brought a consistency to the God I knew and the God I was studying about that I really, really appreciated.

But maybe just briefly introduce yourself and we'll get the ball rolling, man.

Sure.

I'm Marty Solomon.

Today, we are joining L. Grover Fricks to unspool the context of Joshua and Judges.

And yet, I would love if when we encounter these kinds of stories or portions of our text which might require a little bit of extra wrestling, that rather than leaning out and immediately smashing the red button of mystery, being like, "Yep, that's what we're gonna file it under," if we can lean in and read together and study together and see if we can find these clues, find hints about what God might have been up to all along.

So that's what we're doing in our intro episode.

Any opening thoughts on any of the stuff I just said?

Well, if people remember my episode way back at the beginning of session two, you'll know that I took a smattering of everything that L. listed, and I'm just looking forward to, it sounds like I can anticipate maybe some more insight to be added into that toolbox, 'cause I really didn't know, and I still get people who are like, "So what were you saying in that episode?" And I don't even know, 'cause I was like, "Well, it feels comfortable to be literary critical analysis, and it feels comfortable to be a little historical, and it feels comfortable to be a little mystical and all the things you listed." So I'm looking forward to it.

This season is all about diving deep into studying the parables of Jesus.

Today we have Marty Solomon back to join us.

You might remember him from season three.

I am obsessed with him and his books and his podcast, the Bema Discipleship Podcast.

So, yeah.

So that's where I think the, I've said this before, but Marty Solomon of the BIMA podcast says this, diversity of language is humbling.

And it forces us to create together rather than as a single sufficient monument.

And I think that's interesting.

The more you become like Jesus, the more human you're going to become.

This is Marty Solomon.

It's not becoming this ethereal, spiritual being.

It's being truly embodied in as a human.

It's been such an insistent that the whole Bible and everything about the gospel is about us, you know, dying and going to heaven, which will be somewhere far away.

It has nothing to do with our bodies, nothing to do with the earth.

And it's been so incredibly toxic to The book I'm reading right now is Marty Solomon's The Gospel of Being Human.

And he is saying that the sin is this much of the story.

But, like parts of the Luke 19 version, a lot of scholars think the people would have heard it and remembered a current event in their history.

And this particular idea about Luke 19, I learned through Marty Solomon, who's gonna be on the podcast next week, from the Beama podcast.

I'm obsessed with him.

So Luke 19, this parable is told right after the story of Jesus and Zacchaeus, right? Who repents and is, like making reparations with what he has taken and stolen from others.
