Well, I mean, I just know sometimes you got to tear some things down before you build it up.

MLK Hospital and MRT took a lot of heat for that.

But now MLK Hospital is a lot better.

He didn't tear it

down.

It also reduces the amount of state funding hospitals receive through the Medicaid program.

MLK Community Hospital, for instance, which has since opened on the same footprint where King Drew was located, will lose between $80 million and $100 million a year because of the cuts to Medicaid, according to its CEO, Dr. Elaine Batchelor.

She's scrambling to find funding from elsewhere, including from a new 5% sales tax recently passed in Los Angeles County to fund local health services.

She's determined to keep MLK Community Hospital open, but she knows not every hospital will be successful in doing so.

One analysis found that more than 300 rural hospitals are at risk of closing because of HR1.

What Batchelor wants people to know is that an increase in the number of Americans who are uninsured doesn't affect just the people losing that coverage.
