We are, right now, as you and I are speaking...

in what could well be the final throws of completing long negotiations on a bipartisan Senate permitting reform bill with my committee, the Environment and Public Works, and its chair, Shelley Capito, and the Energy Committee ranking member, Martin Heinrich, and its chair, Mike Lee.

So, It's a good time to bring that up because it could very well be in the news fairly soon.

The Republicans are starting to go to their leadership to try to sort out when we land this plane, what runway do we land it on? How does this work? When does it get a Senate vote? When does it get a house vote? Where's the white house going to land on this? And how do you structure the timing of all of that? So it is pretty exciting.

I mean, obviously everybody has their, you know, preferred industries.

Uh, but we're seeing the Senate right now, a bipartisan process, uh, where you're seeing, uh, you know, Senator Armstrong from Oklahoma coming from this very oil and gas producing state, uh, working al- alongside, uh, you know, senators like Sheldon Whitehouse and Martin Heinrich.

Uh, Whitehouse represents Rhode Island, and so speaking of wind, uh, one of the big blowup fights was, uh, when the White House decided to pull a permit for a, a Rhode Island, uh, wind-

But Senate Democrats, when I tried to pass this last week, blocked it.

Martin Heinrich came to the floor.

Democrats said no.

Because if they had just...

Let's require these companies to pay their own way, and as you said, they're for it because they would like to have the goodwill to keep building and serving for compute, for all the different things data centers are serving there.

But I think everyone was shocked after that 417 to three result in the House to see that Democrats didn't want to let this go through.

Um, how shocked were you when Martin Heinrich came and objected to this when it seemed like something everybody [laughs] agrees with in principle?

principle?Uh, well, I'm not shocked that Democrats would wanna stop us from doing things to help the American people just for political gain on their part.

A lot to keep our eye on.

And our guest in the townhouse this morning, Senator Martin Heinrich, the Democrat from New Mexico, could not come at a better time, Jake.

He is at the center of some of these big talks and AI conversations.

He serves as ranking member on the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources.

But Democrats are holding off and we're going to talk to him about that.
