Martin Denny

Stanford's lap steel guitar leads the band and gives it its signature sound as they echo Exotica and Stereo Test records from the late 1950s and early 60s.

They bring to mind the sound of Exotica artists Arthur Lyman and Martin Denny, though they work with a slimmer lineup.

David Stream's Fender Rhodes electric piano is Stanford's principal musical foil in the band, and he occupies the musical space that vibes and xylophones had in the original records.

Earlier this summer, Slowie and the Boats released a new album, Slowie After Dark.

And Dina doing the vocalizing on Out of Nowhere.

It was Martin Denny with Donka Shane for us and Charles Magnante and his accordion and his orchestra from 1967's Carnival and a yellow bird from that one.

You are listening to the Tiki Lounge Extra Happy Hour.

Stereolab was hopping.

They had a cheesy organ in there and everybody was listening to the records of Martin Denny and Esquivel.

And Capitol Records put out this, they started with this, not a club, but this series called Ultra Lounge.

And every one of them is great.

That was Martin Denny just now with Hello Young Lovers from, uh, his Exotica 3 album.

And we heard from Bert Kaempfert right ahead of that one.

Give and Take from Bert's Living It Up album, and began the show with just a, uh, lovely piece of music from Les Baxter and the Orchestra.
