Martin Bayfield

Well, I've been talking about that, James.

I don't know whether you want to tell it, but what about your Marcel Martin story after an England-Scotland game?

It was a particular spiteful time when England and Scotland didn't really get on and we went up to play Scotland in Murrayfield and this game, it was sort of the Wild West back in those days and their captain on the day was a guy called Rob Wainwright who had to leave the field concussed And post-match, in the very early days of professional rugby, so 30 years ago, you actually got cited by the opposition coaches.

So it could have been a little bit of sort of sour grapes.

I've got to say that now.

They had one with, it was, oh, the comedian, tall, tall comedian.

And he was with Martin Johnson, Jack Whitehill.

That was it.

[laughs]

... behind Martin Bayfield.

Um, so, uh, that made me laugh.

And then categorically-

And that all sort of split up the best of any band.

I remember when Robbie Williams left Take That because Martin Bayfield was dropped from the England team.

And he said, oh, it's been a terrible week.

What with Take That splitting up like that.

What with take that spinning up.

Because everyone was expecting him to say, with me getting dropped from the England team.

And a nice little bit of misdirection from Martin Bayfield, who was actually a pretty good after-dinner speaker when it comes to English after-dinner speakers.

He's definitely up there.
