There was an explosion at the central substation last night.

That was while city power technicians were busy on site restoring electricity supply to areas that include parts of the Joburg CBD, Marshalltown and Salby.

They were off again after Tuesday's fourth fire at the embattled substation in just more than a month.

Smoke could be seen bellowing from the substation last night.

The MK party says the cancellation of Sunday's meeting will allow them to focus on community involvement and fieldwork activities on a weekly basis.

On the other hand, Siri Pauwes says he gives precedence to the restoration of power supply to parts of Marshalltown, Johannesburg's middle town, and Salby, that now still burns at its central substance.

The fire broke out yesterday in the middle of previous attempts to restore electricity after three fires in the last few weeks, Siri Pauwes' spokesperson Isaac Mangena.

Previous incidents of central substation were linked to suspected cable theft and vandalism of the electricity infrastructure, further raising concerns over the repeated damage to the underground network.

At the same time, parts of the Johannesburg CBD and Marshall Town remain without power.

This comes after a major fire at the Johannesburg Central Substation over the weekend.

Another new city power says they'll begin assessing damage at the central substation after a fire this weekend damaged underground cables.

The incident has left parts of Marshalltown and the Johannesburg CBD without electricity.

So now with the smoke cleared and city power teams are able to access the affected infrastructure to basically assess the extent of the damage and determine the repairs that are basically required.
