Marshall Fire

It has to do with the development of extreme wind patterns that drive uncontrollable wildfires.

So think about the L.A. wildfires from 2025 or Marshall Fire in Colorado a couple years before that.

Lahaina Fire in Hawaii in 2023.

These were all fires that were driven so quickly by high winds that the firefighters were really... incapable of controlling the fire and it became more of an evacuation job at that point.

Governor Polis is asking President Trump directly for federal disaster following the Aspen Acres and the Gold Mountain fires and the flooding and some burn scars as well.

The Aspen Acres fire outside Pueblo destroyed more than 300 homes, making it Colorado's most destructive fire since the Marshall Fire in 2021.

Colorado's congressional delegation has also sent a different letter directly to the president as well, asking for help and asking, you know, it used to be that this was a pretty streamlined process, that you would ask for money and you would receive the money when times were tough or there was a big disaster.

But Colorado was denied FEMA assistance twice.

In Boulder County, we had the Marshall Fires, where a thousand homes were destroyed.

In Minecraft, I've had kids come in and rebuild their old houses in such stunning detail and then rebuild their new houses.

Then being able to sit down with their dad and say, hey, this is what I remember about the old house.

process things together.

Minecraft is so powerful when there's like big environmental traumas that have happened all over the world.

Of course, in Boulder County, we had the Marshall fires where a thousand homes were destroyed.

And then in California and Los Angeles, the fires that devastated the neighborhoods there.

Right.

And it's mind blowing when you see, you understand completely the reporting I did on the Marshall Fire, on several of the fires in California, the capacity for fire to move quickly is largely a function of this.

And then once you get into an urban setting, you have all these other fuels that become a cascade as well.

It's just kind of astonishing.

Yeah, there's some slides here that I hope you can walk through before we close out.

But I want to bring up another question, which is, it feels to me like it's really important to have these conversations in communities before they're in rebuilding mode.

because one thing i've seen over and over again uh both like in the marshall fire in colorado where in that after the disaster there's so much pressure to rebuild That often communities were there were fighting to have stricter fire code against stricter fire codes for the sake of getting going and that feels like a losing prospect to come in someplace like that, where you think okay they've learned.

Now we do this does that feel cogent that you the ideal scenario for you, which is to build momentum with communities that have not yet been hit.
