Nico, who soon became bored and frustrated not playing, rented a rehearsal studio and invited Adrian to come down and jam with him.

Soon they had called on other friends, Dave Cowell, Andy Barnett and Martin Connolly, and enjoyed themselves so much that Nicko organised for them to play two gigs in December of 1984 at the Marquee Club, one under the name of The Entire Population of Hackney and the other under the name of The Sherman Tankers.

Bootlegs exist of the first gig, and three of the songs played on those nights, Reach Out, Juanita and That Girl, would eventually become B-sides to the two singles released from the next album.

Eventually, the time came for the band to put together their follow-up to Power Slave and the tour it had spawned.

I'm sure every fan has fond memories of seeing Alan play live, whether in person or on the many pieces of audio and video footage that exist from this era.

Just a few examples of film footage that exist include the Marquee Club gig of 1972, Madrid in 75 and Wembley in 74.

I actually watched the film from the 74 gig last night, the band premiering Lancaster's Backwater and Just Take Me.

Seeing this as a teenager during the mid-2000s on the Party in Oviette DVD blew my mind.

Album, really, although it was recorded on my little Akai 4000 DS Mark II in the cellar of my parents' pub.

I put so much work into that because I was also at the time working at the DeWolf Music Studios in Soho, which was next to the old Marquis Club.

So that album, see with that being seen, as I said, was recorded between my own small homemade recording studio.

And there I had, I think it was the Electro Harmonix Rhythm 12 or something.

So we've mentioned that the Beatles got their start.

The Rolling Stones played their first ever show as the Rollin' Stones at the Marquee Club in London.

And Bob Dylan released his debut solo album, imaginatively titled Bob Dylan.

Yes.

But he was kind of in and out of bands.

And then he met Chris Squire at the Marquee Club because John Anderson was actually working at the Marquee for a while.

And Chris Gar was the bass player for a band called Mabel Greer's Toy Shop.

I believe they had Peter Banks and Tony Kaye in there, I think.

But then you also got to actually meet, um, the publishers because they too would come in for a cup of tea or a, an egg sandwich or something.

And so this was the social center, and I was sitting in the Gioconda one day, and I'd met, um, David in the, in the Marquee Club, where he...

He was very much experimental with his music.

He always went from different genres.

It felt like magic, I suppose.

But I ended up on the Marquee, on really big, the Marquee Club is a huge venue in the UK.

I don't even know if it's going anymore.

And really big venues.
