Marooning

Those who did suffered permanent scars and disabilities.

Marooning was another punishment, one that could be imposed by fellow pirates on those who violated the ship's code.

The pirate was taken by boat to a deserted island with minimal supplies, perhaps a bottle of rum, a pistol with ammunition, and nothing else.

Abandoned with no possibility of rescue, he faced a slow death from starvation or disease.
