What role does, um, lactate and talked about perceived effort play versus kind of like sticking to the pace that's on the sheet? What do you try to look for a little more?

I, I think, I think Mark Wetmore used to talk about listening to your instrument a lot.

Mm-hmm.

And so I think there is something to be said about learning feel and not just going to the well just to hit, hit a pace.

Um, I was w- just a year or so into really running at all.

And so our club, uh, Mark Wetmore, had a bus going for our Mile Mountain Road Department trip to the Millrose Games, and we took, I don't know, 25 or 30 people.

And we sat in the nosebleed section, and we watched, uh, I remember, uh, Mary Decker breaking the world 1500 meter record at Millrose on the wooden track, 4:08 indoors, and the place went nuts, just absolutely crazy.

And, uh, that's the kinda thing that brings you back to see another one and wanna pay attention, and wanna pick up Track & Field News, and all that kinda stuff.

They obviously attract a lot of elite, elite runners from Africa and runners that can compete on an international stage at a high level.

I covered Mark Wetmore, who's a famous cross country and track coach at Colorado.

His philosophy was, yeah, I could win national championships if I dipped into Africa, but I want to develop Americans to be in the Olympics, you know, and he had Jenny Simpson and Emma Coburn and just a whole list of Olympians from America.

How do you feel about, you know, just that balance of trying to win college championships and developing Americans you know, not just American, but local runners.
