And Elizabeth most recently reported that the People's Debate, which was going to be an AARP event, it was going to host candidates in the U.S. Senate race, Mark Warner, the incumbent, and then his challenger, retired Army Major General Burke, But that's been called off now because Warner would not commit to taking part.

And Warner's campaign cited a, quote, unsettled and expectedly busy official Senate calendar, end quote.

for not being able to participate.

It's the ballot.

This is a candidate who is on the ballot, right? I mean, so like what happened to this idea of we live in a democracy and voters should know everything, that voters should have all of the facts when they go into the vote and that these debates actually play a really important role in the voters knowing what's going on.

Mark Warner first ran for governor.

It was his first campaign when he ran for governor in 2001.

Why can't they move even the easy stuff forward?

You know, I put a question to Virginia Senator Mark Warner in connection with that because he has been somebody who's been sounding the alarm on artificial intelligence for years now.

Congress had its own concerns.

Three Senate Democrats, Mark Warner, Jack Reed and Chris Coons, asked Inspectors General on Saturday to open an immediate investigation into errors in a military intelligence product that was assembled with AI assistance.

Reporting indicates the document came from a Special Operations Command analyst who used AI tools in its preparation, and that the resulting assessment contained significant factual problems.

The Senators want to know how the tools were approved, what review the product received, and how far the flawed assessment travelled inside the government.
