Mark Sweeney

Stick around.

Coming up, we're going to preview the NLDS between the Milwaukee Brewers and the San Diego Padres with our friend Mark Sweeney, who knows a thing or two about teams in the NL Central.

Of course, Mark, was on the last Padres team that went to the World Series, so we'll get his thoughts coming up here in a little bit.

Marty had a chance to chat with him.

And if you're the Padres, by the way, you are completely disregarding what happened the last time you faced the Milwaukee Brewers in Petco Park, which was so sweet.

Everything changes in the postseason.

Before we find out what's on deck, Darren, and that we hear from Mark Sweeney, I did want to go ahead and show off...

Oh, I keep losing this.

And that wasn't far from being a granny.

Rockies have hit three this year, most recently the pinch hit grand slam on Tuesday night by Mark Sweeney.

Matt Holiday has a grand slam this year, also Trey Johnson.

[crowd cheering]

In the eighth, the Rockies come up with a three-spot.

Todd Helton drives in the last two with his 40th double of the year.

[ball hitting bat] Mark Sweeney likes to call this Wimbledon.

[upbeat rock music] Whiffs on the chalk of the grass.

I tell people I'm joyfully exhausted all the time because I get to wake up and I genuinely can't wait to get to work.

Because of the people, I have an incredible production crew and broadcast crew and Chip Carey and Brad Thompson and Mark Sweeney have been the most welcoming, wonderful humans to me.

And then, of course, the team.

And I think that anyone who works in sports knows that when your team is winning... nothing is really wrong.

Ken Brett now with California, besting Rick Wise.

Then in the second game, the White Sox defeated the Red Sox 7-3, Mark Johnson defeating Ferguson Jenkins.

Then these clubs met just a few weeks ago in Boston, where the Red Sox in 10 innings defeated the White Sox 5-4 with Campbell beating Anderson, and then beating the White Sox 7-1 with Wise over Knapp.

Then in the fifth game between these two clubs, in the third at Fenway Park, it was the White Sox defeating the Boston Red Sox by a score of 7-3.

One of the players that I've just opened my eyes on, and we've watched them the last couple of years, he almost got sent down to AAA.

Mark Sweeney was telling me this.

Out of spring training is Jordan Walker.

And he's turned his career around.

My guest played 14 years in Major League Baseball in his third year now covering the St. Louis Cardinals.

As we preview the Cardinals, let's bring in Mark Sweeney.

Mark, how are you today?

Bill, I'm doing great.

They're second and third right now in RBIs.

So you start looking at what they're doing, and they have a prize rookie in J.J. Weatherholt that hopefully is coming off the I.L. soon.

Mark Sweeney joining me on the warm-up show.

Let's talk a little bit about Cardinals defense because the defense has been extraordinary.
