Mark O'Meara

When they were there before, they had like a lottery drawing called the Golden Ball.

And if you were selected, you got to play a few holes with Mark O'Meara, who was out there.

And Mark was the king of Pebble Beach for so often winning the AT&T.

So many times, and I believe he won his California State Am at Pebble Beach.

First of all, I'm looking at him.

There's John Stewart, Jason Priestley, Fred Couples, Mark O'Meara, David Duval, Sergio Garcia, Team KMS are the faces looking at me, and a Bird and I, uh, framed album cover.

So we're gonna stick to the '80s, of course.

We're gonna do an actor.

Yeah.

Who was Tiger's, was it Mark McNamara? What was the guy's name? Who was his buddy? Who won a couple of majors? Mark O'Meara.

Mark O'Meara won two majors, right? Mark O'Meara tells the story about Tiger, where they went and they played a round of golf together, and Tiger shot a 59, right? And the next day they went out, and Tiger, the first hole, he had a, it was a par three on the first hole, wherever they went, and he had a hole in one.

And Marco Mira walked off the course, got in his car, and drove home.

He's like, I'm not doing this anymore.

Right.

So, uh, we're gonna go and watch Tiger Woods, Mickelson, Couples, and O'Meara.

Right.

Off we go.

... uh, for, for l- and, and networks were hearing the overexposure, a, a lot of golfers.

Like, like very quickly, the smart guys, like Mark O'Meara embraced him.

He understood rising tide lifts all boats.

Yeah.

First, I'm looking at him.

Now, this is something not a whole lot of golf fans would know, but often Tiger liked to go to Ireland just before the British Open to kind of play links golf, to get relaxed, to do a bit of fishing.

I think Mark O'Meara came along for a few of those trips.

Um, I, I know that you've told me you didn't always go on those Ireland trips, but sometimes you did.

What were they like? Like, like how, how fun were they? How much did it look like it relaxed Tiger to, to build up to the Open that way? And just generally, like, how special was, was that to share that, that week leading up, um, with the, you know, the greatest golfer of all time?

You're no good?

Yeah, no good.

[laughs] Those guys are very ex- those guys, Mark O'Meara and Tiger, very, very experienced fly fisherman, particularly Mark O'Meara, and I have no experience and I'm no use to the trip for that, for that.

So I would remain in the hotel and do the golf.
