Fifth Estate colleague Mark Kelley and I waited outside a bar for hours one night, where we were told he might show up.

He never did.

And I tracked down his dad and asked him to ask Jesse Ray if we could speak.

It felt, it felt like the building had been flipped upside down.

Um, Mark Kelley, he doesn't mind that I name him because he experienced it, he was the host on CBC at the time, screamed, "Oh my God." You could hear the producers and the cameramen.

My hair is crawling right now just thinking about it.

I jumped at the chance to return to my small town reporting roots and do what I could for a community looking for answers.

In the spring of 2024, Fifth Estate host Mark Kelley and I headed to Dawson Creek.

As we drove closer to town, dense forests and rocky gorges gave way to sprawling grain fields.

Oil and gas pumping stations, too.
