Mark J. Ott

[laughs] Uh, it is remarkable what you and your team have been able to accomplish to bring about this school.

Can we just give a round of applause for this incredible human being and great leader, Dean Mark Ott, for his truly remarkable efforts? [cheering] [clapping] Now, Dean Ott, before this starts to feel like a eulogy- [laughs] ...

tell us a little bit about how you felt when you received this notice from the LCME.

Yeah, it, it had been a busy day, and I came back to my office, and there was an email from the LCME, which I opened and immediately felt a really joyful gratitude.

By the way, that's usually bad news.

[laughs] Uh, and, uh, I happened to be at an event, uh, in, in what can only be described as a moment of true, true fortuitousness, uh, with the chair of our executive committee, Elder Dale G. Renlund, who, who really provides, uh, governance for, for us, and, and Elder James R. Rasband of the Quorum of the 70, who, who is the commissioner of church education.

So I, I quickly grabbed both of them and said, "I have some news." And having been involved in higher education, they both saw the university spokesperson come in and grab me and said, "This cannot be good." [laughs] And I said, "For once, it's incredible news." [laughs] Uh, so we were just all, uh, in a moment of just incredible both celebration for all the reasons you articulated, Mark, but also, uh, uh, grateful because we had all prayed and fasted for this moment to, to happen.

And so we are indeed grateful for all the consecrated work from you, Dean Ott, from the hundreds of volunteers.

Dr.

Mark Ott, who is the new dean of the medical school, has been working tirelessly about getting things off the ground when it comes to this new medical school.

And they announced obviously a new building that we built on what they call the West Campus.

Many of you know it as the former campus of Provo High School, which is across University Avenue from the main campus of Brigham Young University.
